MOON WATCHING CHILD

A Poem By Vino

Translated into English by Latha Ramakrishnan (*First Draft)

On viewing the moon

while feeling forlorn

I can’t help shedding tears at once

As the Moon keeps moving

along the speeding train….

In the window-seat I am stationed

Turning away from the Moon

I look around

In the seat opposite

a child starts crying

Ignoring all others who try to console it

 It accepts all too soon

_God knows why

the entreating words to pacify:

“See the Moon…. There… see the Moon”

Wiping its tears

It starts watching the Moon

Looks at it very quietly

It keeps watching at the Moon

growing more and more peaceful

I do know that

Moon-watching children cry not

without exception

and that no man nor woman

viewing  the

Moon-watching little ones.
